When you visit the island of St. John, you can relax in the sun near the water, read a good book and shake off the stress of every day life. It can be a quiet and peaceful holiday where you take it all at a real slow pace. But if you prefer to stay active and explore, St. John offers plenty to fill your days. Hiking, biking, fishing, snorkeling, scuda diving, sailing, power boating and exploring are just a few of the many activities in which you can take part.
If you are a boater, or at least like boats, there are a number of places to rent wave runners, power boats and sail boats. You can explore the islands on chartered sailboat cruises. Pick your pleasure here: full day-half day, snorkel and sunset cruises are all offered. You can also fly high above the water while para-sailing.
Prefer to get into the water? St. John has a number of beaches, operated by the National Park Service, with each taking on a different look and feel. If you want to shield yourself from the sun, most beaches offer natural shade from the Mango trees swaying overhead. All the island beaches offer the same gentle trade winds, plentiful sunshine and crystal clear Caribbean seas.
To experience some of the best underwater scenery anywhere consider snorkeling. You can rent gear and take advantage of a guided tour or explore on your own. In Trunk Bay, there is a snorkeling trail that tells you the variety of coral you are viewing.
Some vendors offer a kayaking snorkel adventure that has visitors snorkeling from their kayak after reaching a magical destination. Many say they feel as if they are swimming in an aquarium.
Back on land, there are exotic trails to hike, bike or experience on horseback. There is a tropical miniature golf course and numerous art galleries and unique shops to discover.
St. John is an island paradise where you may be content to take in the sun and surf in Caribbean trade winds. But if you prefer to be active and fill your days, there is plenty to do on this vacation and many more to come.
